Stoppage-time equaliser denies Irish U21s victory in Austria

Austria 1-1 Republic of Ireland. Don Givens' Ireland Under-21s were denied a memorable win over Austria in Vienna when the hosts equalised with literally the last kick of the ball. Ahead through Keith Treacy's first half strike, the Austrians grabbed an unlikely leveler in the 93rd minute when substitute Stanislaw curled the ball passed Stephen Henderson from ten yards.

Trapattoni waits on Steven Reid before confirming team against Norway

Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni will await a fitness report on Steven Reid tomorrow morning before confirming his starting team to face Norway in Oslo on Wednesday night (6pm, Irish team). Liam Miller will take the place of Reid should he fail to overcome a slight knock.

FIFA today confirmed that it has asked the Georgian FA to nominate a neutral venue for the Group 8 World Cup qualifier match against the Republic of Ireland on September 6. The Football Association of Ireland will keep Irish fans updated in relation to the new venue on www.fai.ie. FIFA has indicated that it expects to confirm the new venue next week.

eircom League stars hoping for Under-21 international action

Three young eircom League of Ireland hopefuls will be aiming to show what they can do on an International stage on Tuesday night when the Republic of Ireland Under-21 team face Austria in Vienna in a friendly (7.30pm). Shamrock Rovers duo Padraig Amond and Simon Madden, as well as Seamus Coleman of Sligo Rovers, are all in Don Givens' Under-21 squad.

Steven Reid sits out training as precaution

The training session for the Republic of Ireland squad on Monday at the Bislett Stadium in Oslo didn't include Steven Reid after the Blackburn Rovers midfielder took a knock in Sunday's workout. The medical staff are hopeful of him returning to training ahead of Wednesday's friendly against Norway.
