"John Thomson Memorial Football Tournament"
Yesterday was the 28th anniversary of the John Thomson Memorial Football Tournament for Primary School children in the Cardenden, Kinglassie area, it was won fittingly by Cardenden United.
This is a wonderful day for all the people of the area who turn out in huge numbers to remember one of their own; and to keep alive the name of John Thomson.
Over 100 local kids take part and everyone receives an award at the end of the tournament.
Great credit must go to President Alex Burns and his committee for arranging the football and providing the funds for the prizes, they also get great support from local MP Lindsay Roy, and local Councillor William Clark.
After the presentation of prizes we headed up to Bowhill cemetery to lay wreaths at the grave of John after the piper had played a lament. Wreaths were laid on behalf of Celtic FC by first team goalkeeper Fraser Forster, Lisbon Lions John Fallon and Charlie Gallagher, the Association and Affiliation, and local Celtic CSCs including Ballingry and Lochgelly.
The Association are very proud to be one of the sponsors of the tournament, hopefully we will continue to work together for the benefit of the local community, and to keep alive the memory of the late great John Thomson.
